Professional Career

Jerome C. Ives is currently a Vice President of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG).

He spent most of his career with the United States Department of the Interior: beginning as a survey technician and retiring in 1986 from a position as manager of a major surveying and mapping unit. He held various titles: civil engineer, cadastral surveyor, manager. While with the Department of the Interior he chaired or participated in numerous management studies: office level to government wide. He also co-authored a plan for a cadastral survey of Saudi Arabia.

After leaving the Department of the Interior and until 1991 he was founder and President of Spatial Data Enterprises, Inc.: specializing in land information systems consulting and production.

He has been active in FIG as the 1993 Permanent Committee meeting organizing committee chairman; the head of U.S. Delegation (1988-91), and the U.S. Delegate to Commission 8, Urban Land Systems: Planning and Development (1984-87). He has also held various positions in the American Congress On Surveying and Mapping, and the American Society Civil Engineers.
